THE STRUGGLE TO OVERCOME THE SELF

In creating this work of art it was my intention to depict our journey through life. When you first

look at this work it usually causes a disturbance within. You may think life is not that bad. Generally

speaking it is not. However there are cases in which peoples lives are really in such complete turmoil.

Whether your life is a horrible mess or pretty good or somewhere in between we all have

those miserable times in our live that we have to overcome. Many of the horrors which we experience in

our lives, we create ourselves. I won’t go into all the possibilities; but the symbolism is there. Look at it and

think about your own life.

Here is the thing we all miss and sometimes never discover. We have the power to overcome and

create ourselves anew. This is depicted with the imagery of the painting originating from the mind’s eye of

the individual in question. If we can just find the strength to let go and un-create the horrors that we have

imprisoned ourselves within; then we would have a fresh canvas with which to paint a new life.

Paul Klee put it succinctly, " Becoming is superior to being."
